Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2021: awards and winners

Artur Proidakov from Kyiv won the National Global Teacher Prize Ukraine, known as the Nobel Prize for Teachers. Teachers were also awarded in nine different nominations. The fifth jubilee award ceremony with a red carpet and a festive concert took place on October 2 on Sofia Square in Kyiv with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

The winner received UAH 300,000, a trip to the largest educational event Global Education and Skills Forum, as well as professional development and support for the implementation of educational projects from the organizer of the award — NGO “Osvitoria”.

This year a special nomination was introduced for teachers of Donetsk and Luhansk oblast — “Frontline Teacher”. Tamara Umanska from Kreminna, Luhansk oblast, received a special prize from the curator of the nomination, writer Serhii Zhadan — an educational trip, also Deltahost will make technological gifts to the schools of 10 finalist teachers from the eastern regions.

According to the results of the Ukrainian voting, Pavlo Viktor became the winner. He teaches physics at the Odessa Lyceum and became famous after recording and posting on YouTube a full course of physics from 7th to 11th grade. More than 232,000 Ukrainians voted for him.

Uliana Butsiak and Tetiana Vakuliuk received a special prize from the curator of the award “Choice by Heart”, “1+1” TV presenter Natalia Moseichuk.

Tetiana Mendus from Vinnytsia oblast was awarded in the special nomination “Realization of a dream” from the agricultural holding MHP: now the newest STEM-laboratory will be installed in her native school.

The leader of the NGO JuniorZ, Ukrainian TV presenter Oleksandr Pedan awarded Oksana Yurkiv, a physical education teacher from the Ternopil oblast, with an educational trip to Germany and a cash prize.

Serhii Javakhishvili, the best chemistry teacher from Kremenchuk, received UAH 200,000 from the Zagoriy Foundation.

Microsoft Ukraine and Lenovo Ukraine awarded the teacher-innovator: the winner in this nomination was Nataliia Vlasova from Dnipro.

Hanna But, the winner of the nomination “Best teacher of civic education” from Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia oblast, will visit the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2022 or embark on another educational journey. The partner of the nomination is the program to promote public activity “Engage!”, Funded by the United States Agency for International Development and implemented by Pact Ukraine.

Another newly created award for young teachers —”Teacher — peer of Independence” went to Kateryna Bihar from Transcarpathia. The international youth organization AIESEC awarded Kateryna with a professional internship abroad.

This year the jury included the head of NGO “Osvitoria” and founder of the award Zoya Lytvyn, “1+1” TV presenter and award curator Nataliia Moseichuk, former Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliia Hrynevych, winner of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2020 Vasyl Diakiv, founder of EdEra platform Illia Filipov, young inventor and startupper Mykhailo Chumachenko, psychologist Svitlana Roiz and world award finalist Carlo Mazzone.

The award is supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, Zagoriy Foundation, MHP agro-industrial holding, Microsoft, Lenovo and Deltahost, EdCamp Ukraine and AIESEC in Ukraine, NGO “Oleksandr Pedan’s Movement JuniorZ”, Charitable Foundation “International Organization for Social Justice”, Civic Activity Promotion Program “Engage!” Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Pact in Ukraine.
