Artur Proidakov 2021

Location: Kyiv
School: MIDGARD
Subject: Ukrainian language and literature

Artur Proidakov was born in Kadiivka, which is now in the occupied part of Luhansk oblast. From an early age, he was interested in the Ukrainian language and culture. He was inspired by football commentators and Ukrainian-language bands. In 2007, he entered the Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, and in November 2014 he was forced to leave home because of the war. Now Artur works at the MIDGARD school in Kyiv, where he “gently Ukrainianizes” students and proves to them every day that education can be interesting.

Under Artur’s mentorship, students from small towns pass the External Independent Evaluation with 190+ points, after the first year at the university they find a job in SMM or copywriting and involuntarily fall in love with modern Ukrainian literature. During classes, he conducts surveys on the Telegram channel, teaches students SMM management, and creates a pleasant microclimate for learning through games. Artur’s dream is to build a cultural bridge between people from the West and the East of Ukraine with the help of interregional travels. He is convinced that removing barriers between Ukrainians will make it easier to counter outside propaganda.

“Being the 2021 best teacher according to the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine is not about being a winner, a good man, a pretty guy. It is about the responsibility and authority to represent educators of Ukraine.”
